A reproduction of the Satyr from folio,13r. of the Aberdeen Bestiary which I completed recently. Satyrs, despite their devilish appearance, were considered to be harmless simians of Ethiopian origin. The Thyrsus in his right hand, or Bacchic wand, with a conical ornament, has been gilded with copper and the background was gilded with shell gold.
